This week I have been brainstorming about doing a series of photographs based on poetry, specifically something with an element of nature.
Annie Flanagan and Maddie McGarvey created composite images that visualized a poem by Melissa Studdard titled “Everyone In Me is a Bird.”
Their use of outside environments is what made me look to them for inspiration.
Poets that have sparked my interest so far….
Alexis Pauline Gumbs- Prose poetry, talks about the climate crisis, has themes of a post-earth world
Camille T. Dungy-
Katherine Riegel- “What I Would Grow In My Garden”
Leah Naomi Green- “To the Cardinal, Attacking His Reflection in the Window”
Results
Find Her by Alexis Pauline Gumbs
lean over little one
and listen to the ocean
she will tell you all the secrets
that you cannot understand
you can find her at the shoreline
hands in sand
legs mermaiding
the push and pull
this is where you find her
a bath of sand
shells fill her bathing suit her braids
right where the worlds meet
expect her at the edge of breathing
where walking starts to fail
she lives here
at the shelf of adaptation
